LACI Leadership Council: "California & Los Angeles at the Forefront of Subnational Climate

More nimble than their national counterparts, subnational actors - cities, states, businesses, universities, NGOs - are leading the way in the fight against climate change. Among these actors, California has consistently been a recognized subnational leader in the United States and internationally, both before the planned US exit from the Paris agreement and even more so since.
At the city level, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has positioned the city to lead from the front, co-founding the Mayor’s National Climate Action Agenda (MNCAA) and taking an active part in key international initiatives and groups. Los Angeles has also placed sustainability at the forefront of the Summer Olympics 2028 to host the first ever “Energy Positive Games”. Broad, ambitious vision becomes reality through the collective bottom-up initiatives and actions of subnational players.
This event will convene two panels of experts to explore how the City of Los Angeles and the State of California can maintain their leadership in climate action and serve as a model for other cities and states around the world. Bagels and coffee will be provided.
